Dosing & Timing Guide
Functional mushrooms are adaptogens — they work cumulatively over weeks, not acutely like caffeine. Getting the timing right maximizes their effectiveness. Here is everything you need to know.
Consistency beats perfect timing. Taking your mushrooms at the same time every day — even if it's not the optimal time — will always outperform sporadic use at the perfect time.
Timing by Mushroom
Lion's Mane stimulates Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) synthesis, supporting cognitive clarity and focus. Taking it in the morning aligns with your brain's peak learning and performance window. Some people find it mildly activating — avoid taking it in the evening if you're sensitive to stimulation.
Chaga has no stimulating or sedating effects, making it flexible in your routine. Taking it with food improves absorption of its fat-soluble antioxidant compounds. Morning or midday works equally well — choose whichever time you are most consistent with.
Reishi's ganoderic acids modulate GABA receptors and inhibit cortisol synthesis, producing a calming effect that aligns with your natural wind-down cycle. Evening timing is strongly recommended — taking Reishi in the morning may cause unwanted drowsiness in some people.
Cordyceps supports ATP synthesis and oxygen utilization — the mechanisms behind its energy and performance benefits. Taking it before your most demanding activity of the day (workout, long work session) amplifies these effects. Avoid evening dosing as it may interfere with sleep in sensitive individuals.
Turkey Tail's prebiotic compounds work best when consumed with food. The timing matters less than the consistency — daily use is what drives the meaningful microbiome and immune benefits. Morning or evening both work equally well.

Should I Take Mushrooms With Food?
Yes — always take mushroom capsules with food for two reasons. First, many of the active compounds in functional mushrooms (particularly triterpenes in Reishi and antioxidants in Chaga) are fat-soluble, meaning they absorb better in the presence of dietary fat. A meal with healthy fats further enhances absorption. Second, taking capsules with food reduces the chance of any digestive sensitivity, particularly when starting.
The exception is if you are doing an early morning workout and take Cordyceps pre-exercise — in this case taking it with a small snack is fine. Avoid taking any mushroom supplement on a completely empty stomach.
